About Us

Our History

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1944 as Army Air Force Annex #1 Credit Union, with only 94 members and an all volunteer staff. Since those humble beginnings, we have grown to become a full-service financial institution with over 32,600 members and over $320 million in assets.  We have branches located in Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and Harrisonburg, VA.

We have remained true to the credit union philosophy of "people helping people" - providing members with loans, savings plans, and special services to achieve their long-term financial goals and help them enjoy a better way of life. Take advantage of membership and let us be "Your Lifetime Financial Partner!" Click here to establish membership today.

What is a Credit Union?

A credit union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned and controlled by its members. Many credit unions charge lower fees and offer better rates on loans and deposits than banks, and credit unions often exist to further community development. Credit unions are a secure place to save because they are regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a Federal agency. Members' deposits are insured up to at least $250,000 and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government.

Our Commitment to You

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union is a full-service, member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative committed to being the lifetime financial institution of its members.
