Now, more than ever, we believe it's our duty and privilege to giveback to the community.

“People Helping People” is the principle foundation of CommonWealth One’s core values and the cornerstone of the credit union movement.

This philosophy has shaped the way CommonWealth One does business, from the products and services they offer members to community service efforts.

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union launched its Winter Food Drive in January, with a goal of donating $5,000 to organizations serving local residents. The effort started on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which is traditionally the credit union’s Day of Service.

Over a 5-week period, CommonWealth One members raised $4,189 in financial donations and another $833 in non-perishable food donations.

CommonWealth One itself matched that with a $5,000 donation of its own, splitting the total $10,033 donation between the Capital Area Food Bank and Mercy House in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Since the coronavirus pandemic started, both organizations have seen a significant increase in residents needing food assistance.

Now, CommonWealth One is continuing to help the community with a Virtual Cherry Blossom Walk event.

Since the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run & 5K Run-Walk is virtual this spring, CommonWealth One is finding a way to support the community while gathering everyone together virtually.

From 10 a.m. – noon on Saturday, April 10, 2021, join us on Zoom on your mobile device as you walk around your own neighborhood (or a park, hiking trail or other location). CommonWealth One will make an honorary donation in the name of the first 100 people who register, with donations going to the Children’s Miracle Network, which benefits local children’s hospitals.

These events are just some of the ways we help our members and the larger community. From school supply drives to winter coat drives, charitable donations and volunteering, CommonWealth One truly embraces the credit union movement’s “people helping people” philosophy.

Keep an eye on our events calendar at cofcu.org/events for details on more ways to help the community along with us. Thanks for being a member!
