We believe it's our privilege to giveback to the communities we serve.

You’ve probably, by now, heard us talk about “people helping people.”

That phrase is at the heart of the credit union movement, and it’s something we truly embrace here at CommonWealth One. In fact, we go way beyond helping our own members with their financial needs — we help the community and the people in it with all sorts of things!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Saturday, October 16, we’re sponsoring the 19th Annual Race to Beat Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run and Golf Tournament. This event benefits the RMH Foundation to Benefit Breast Cancer Treatment and Support at the Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Our goal is to have 100 participants for this event, and to help make it easy for you to join us, we will pay your registration! If you would like to join us in the walk/race event, visit our website to learn more and to register by Friday, October 8 for this fun and important event!

We’re helping in other ways, too. For example, last month we donated more than $1,000 worth of school supplies to local students and teachers to help them start the school year strong. The school supplies drive is something we do annually, and we’re thankful to our members for helping us help them.

Be on the lookout for more opportunities to help this fall, including donating to local area food banks. You can always check our website, but you should follow us on Facebook and Instagram, too.

Lastly, we wanted to point out another way you can give back: by joining the board or serving as a committee member for your credit union. This volunteer position gives you the opportunity to have a direct impact on how your credit union is run and how it serves its members. Every year, three positions become available on the COFCU Board of Directors, and more information is available now at www.cofcu.org/nominee. The nominating committee is accepting nominations until Monday, November 1.

Thanks for helping CommonWealth One fulfill our mission of “people helping people.” We’re excited for the opportunity to help you and the communities we serve this fall!
